Title: DR-680 settings w/V3
Post by: T140V on September 09, 2017, 01:37:29 PM
I just got a DR-680 and I wanna run it tonight for J. Isabell....I've been bombing through threads and not finding specifics for my app...could somebody give me a quick tutorial as to what my input settings need to be to run V3>DR-680 DIN @ 24/48...its a bit confusing reading the manual.

By DIN, do you mean you want to run digital in?

hi, yes...spdif out of v3...so just to use dr-680 as bit bucket...no other inputs....mic are akg-463...i think i have it setup right but maybe not...here is what i have in the rec menu:
fromat: wav 24
sample: 48
file:ST
trk: 5/6 st highlighted
st rec: DIN

I/O : input sel is set to digital

what should MS mode be?

what am I missing? testing in the living room before hitting the road, I have no meters on the 680?

At the I/O menu, set input select to "Digital." This will record the Stereo signal to tracks 5/6, rather than the Stereo Tracks (7/8), which have better meters.

In the "Rec" menu, set "ST Rec" to the "Mix" setting. If set to Digital, the above setting in the I/O menu will have no effect.

Make sure both units are set to the correct sample rate and that you see a "DIN Lock" message on the DR-680. Also make sure your digital cable is working correctly.

If it's still not locking, you could try the V3's AES outputs (assuming you have proper cables). The 680 will automatically sync to SPDIF or AES formatted signals and I always found AES signals to sync more reliably.
