Title: What's the Difference between a HPF and a LCF

Are they the same?  Can someone explain the benefits/drawback of their use?  Thank you very much.

A High Pass Filter (HPF) and a Low Cut Filter (LCF) are two names for the same thing.

"HPF" decreases low frequencies (bassfilter) at the set Hz, i.e. HPF set to 80Hz => everything below 80Hz gets filtered
HIGH frequencies may pass => highs remain unaltered.
If you think your recording has too much bass (low frequencies), use a HPF

"LPF" decreases high frequencies...low frequencies may pass => lows remain unaltered.

It always bugs me that it would be called a high pass filter. The reason for a filter is to remove something, so I always think it is more meaningful and simple to conceptualize it in terms of what it is removing/filtering, i.e. low freq. in this this case. So Low Cut Filter makes more sense to me. After all, a "fish net" is not called a "water pass net".... duh... ::) [/slight rant]
