How to get Auto focus in video mode? I'm stuck in manual focus.
I asked this several months ago and no one ever responded. I have since bought a second ZS100 and have not tried to do anything that would take it out of auto-focus mode. My first ZS100 is still in manual focus mode. I like it for certain situations - like when there is a lot of flashing lights (strobes), for example. But I also get a fair amount of video that is slightly out of focus when shooting in manual focus mode because it appears to be in focus in the LED, and I don't actually see that it's out of focus until I get home and see it on my computer.
I considered the 'nuclear bomb' option of resetting the camera to default settings (which would bring back auto-focus) and go back through with the other various recommended settings that Datfly listed, along with the recording time hack. That would only take five minutes or so. But now that I have a second camera, I decided not to do that.
I figured it out.
On the back of the camera to the left of the center Menu button is the MF button.
If when you press this the yellow focus square pops up(such was the case for me)You need to go into the Menu>Custom Wrench screen>Page 3 DIRECT FOCUS AREA -OFF-.
Now when you press the MF button on back of camera you get your choices of AF.MF
Also most useful for how we are filming is to change the AF/AE Lock button so when you press it in you get AF only while pressing in.So you can be in full Manual Focus and grab AF when pressing and holding the AF/AE Lock button(AKA back button AF) press it in and get AF.let go and back in Manual focus.
To set this up go to Custom Wrench Menu>Page 1 AF/AE Lock>SELECT >AF-ON
