Title: Edirol R-1 won't power up
Post by: splumer on September 03, 2013, 10:14:15 AM
My  >:D recorder, an Edirol R-1, won't power up at all. It's got fresh batteries, a brand-new CF card, but nada. I tried a couple sets of batteries, too, to make sure. Nothing is coming up on the display at all. Is it fubar? I have a show coming up next week I need it for. I might have to break out my MD recorder if I can't get the R-1 to work, otherwise it's my PMD660 with the internals...

No one has responded, but just for fun I tried a different 2GB CF card in it. It powered up fine! But it won't do a thing with a 4GB Kingston card in in. It has worked fine with a Sandisk 4GB card in the past.  ???

You need to get an older 8GB card.  Edirol R-1 will not power up with newer 8GB cards.  It's onboard powering configuration is weak.

Go on eBay and get a Sandisk Ultra II 15mb/s 8GB card.  It works flawlessly.  It should cost you around $20 - $25.
