Title: powering V3 & DA-P1 from 1 battery
Post by: Rob D. on April 08, 2004, 05:22:06 PM
does anyone here use a single 6v Eco-Charge to power these devices? I'll do it when I only need to record about 2 hours, otherwise, I'll use two batteries. I was taping a show last night using one battery and the V3's low battery started flahing about about 70 minutes. This is a V3 that was sent to Grace for the battery light calibration thingy shortly after I bought it. Just curious how long these two devices will run on a single 6volt?

Duh...NJB3 draws roughly 600mA, DAP1 draws around 850mA, V3 draws roughly 750-1,000 mA, so say 1,000 mA to be safe.  What capacity SLA?

Brian, not exaclty sure is meant by capacity SLA but here are the specs on the battery I'm using:
BP-50 Specifications
• 6 volt, 7.2 amp hour
• Dual output XLR connectors
• Auto short circuit protection
• Max. current draw: 3.0 A @ 50º C
• Dimensions: 6 x 1.4 x 5
• Weight: 3.2 lb.
• Ballistic nylon padded case with belt loop

Per the Archival Info thread on calculating battery run-time (http://www.taperssection.com/yabbse/index.php?board=14;action=display;threadid=2460), we can estimate run-time using the following equation:

( Battery Capacity [mAH] / Current Draw [mA] ) * ( .80 )

Your battery's amp hour rating is its capacity.  We now have everything we need to estimate run-time:
1000 mA  | V3 current draw
 850 mA  | DAP1 current draw
7200 mAH | SLA capacity (1 AH = 1,000 mAH, so 7.2 AH = 7200 mAH)
So, we have:
( 7200 mAH / ( 850 mA + 1000 mA ) ) * (.80)
or
( 7200 mAH / 1850 mA ) * (.80) = 3.11 hrs
So you're looking at about 3 hrs max run-time if you run 'em both on the same batt.

Wow, thanks Brian! You answered my questions to (+)T!

I have tried a few times to run a V3 and a D8 off the same 6v 7.0 AH battery (Powersonic) and have gotten only about 1.5 hours of use. Given, my battery is a few years old which may account for shorter run times.
This was running MG210s > V3 > D8 (48kHz w/ ANSR and D8 light on). I now have two batteries for a show. I am going to purchase a 10AH sla and try runtimes on that at some point in my life...

seriously???

i ran a v3 and d-8 off of the same bp-50 at midx last year and got about 6 hrs, maybe a hair more!!!

481>v3>d8(phantom on, 48v)coax output

now a single bp-50 runs only the v3 for a SOLID 9 hrs

FWIW, I used to run a V2 and p1 off the same 6v ecocharge and I would get about 3 hrs.
