Title: What would i need to do a webcast?
Post by: philR on February 28, 2005, 04:07:28 PM
looks like i might have the option to be able to do this if i can get it all together in time.  so what exactly would i need to do this?  how hard is it?

and simp-dawg if you read this it's about what we've been talking about.

I did one and found it was not so hard. That is, until I was shut down by the university I go to. haha. I am pretty tech-savvy tho.
http://www.shoutcast.com/download/broadcast.phtml is the way to go. http://www.shoutcast.com/index.phtml
Try and follow the directions as best as possible and if you have any questions, post and I'll try to answer if I can.

there is a windows media server option for IIS if you can get together a windows 2000 server.  I remember it was pretty easy to setup and just fed it via line in on a soundcard

so if i'm doing this remotely, i'd just dial into the server that will be broadcasting it then with this windows 2000 server?

maybe if i include some more info.  at the boulder theater they have wi-fi already set up.  i'd be using a server down in denver to use for bandwidth and to actually broadcast the show.

thanks for all the help so far.

I'm pretty sure I ran the shoutcast server app (http://www.shoutcast.com/download/serve.phtml) off of the same machine I used to broadcast and it was secure and all you need. If you have a spare computer lying around though, go for it.

cool, cause it looks like i've found someone whose bandwidth we can use, we just have to figure out how to do it.  i almost have the go-ahead from the band too.

well...i went to check out my laptop that i had the stuff set up on...and i've since reimaged it.  doh!  i do remember we used a program called simplecast to actually broadcast with.  it detects your soundcard, grabs the signal, encodes to 64kbps mp3, and streams it to the shoutcast server that you specify.

shoutcast DOES require your own server (read that in the faq).  if you can't get one set up i am 99.9% positive you (we) can use the new one that's setup for thebouldersound (http://stream.thebouldersound.com:8501/listen.pls which is already streaming the kbfr archives) to stream from.  that's actually the easiest way to do it, and it would be very much welcomed i'm certain.
