Title: D8 battery question
Post by: Trey Batson on July 13, 2003, 10:55:24 PM
I was reading the D7 manual last night (I don't have a D8 manual) and I noticed they reccomend you take out your AA batteries or dc power if you don't plan on using your deck for a while.  Is this a valid concern over time?  What can this cause?

Thanks.

Best case, it'll probably drain your batteries.  Worst case they may corrode and leak battery acid in the deck.

Leaving it plugged into AC via the wallwart, you may get a voltage spike which could damage the deck.  (Most cheapo surge protectors and wallwarts don't do diddly to protect gear.)

Ok cool deal, I was pretty sure it wasn't a life/death issue for the deck.

The D7/8/100 and the M1 do not have a power on/off switch thus when the batteries are in the unit it is always on.  The display will use up the batteries over time.

Over a long time.

I leave mine in so I do not have to reset the clock/date every time.

The manual states the power used to keep the LED screen on is negligible though.

with batteries the hold switch in D8 is the power off switch.
