Title: "MakeTorrent" Program Doesn't Work - Help ?
Post by: Josephine on December 02, 2005, 02:26:59 AM
My regular computer is on the fritz, so I'm using my "spare" one.  I've spent the evening getting the Paul McCartney show I taped last night ready to seed.  Anyway, I have been using "MakeTorrent" (on my regular computer) and it works fine.  So I download it onto the spare, install it, but when I try to run it, I get that damn Windows message:  "MakeTorrent has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience."  You know, the message that asks whether or not you want to report it.  I've got the whole show ready to go and I can't make a stinking torrent file.  This sucks.   >:(

Can anyone tell me what the problem is or if there is an alternate program I can use to create a torrent file?
Thanks.
:)

sorry I can't help but I tried to use it yesterday for the first time and couldn't get it to work for the life of me.  I use torrentspy and love it.

Hmmmm . . . torrentspy, huh?  Thanks Gordon, I'll give it a try.

:)

Edited to add:  Shoot !!  I just tried torrentspy and I'm getting the same message.  I don't get it.  Everything else on the computer is running fine -- programs far more complex than maketorrent or torrentspy.   :(

I am having the exact same problem. Works on one of my computer and got the same error as you did on the second PC. I try download older version of Make Torrent and I continue to get the same error. My fix was I went back to the first PC.

I've been the utorrent client, for both downloading, and creating torrent files and seeding.

I think it works better than any other client I've tried.

One more vote for utorrent!

Jason / OFOTD ~

I just downloaded utorrent and it worked.  I was able to make a torrent.  Thanks for the help, guys.
Looks like I'll be able to torrent my show when I get home from work this afternoon.  :)

You'll love utorrent.

It is a feature-rich client and takes next to no memory resources and is pretty damn quick.    You are now one of us!  +T

i thought torrentspy was a website where you could download torrents, i didn't know you could use it to make torrents.  interesting.

still, i vote for utorrent, it does everything, no need for multiple programs anymore.

Actually Torrentspy (the program) has been out for years via Sourceforge originally.  The website is completely unrelated to the program of the same name.  I do believe that it has been quite a while since the program has been updated but when I used it it did exactly what it is supposed to do.

Using a full-featured client to generate torrent files seems to be the way to go now.  I use µtorrent damn near all the time now but also have used Azerus to create torrents.  They both support the option to add multiple trackers to torrents as well as associating them with DHT.
