Hello,

I am hoping you can tell me which sample you think sounds better and why?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

I should mention that no editing has been done, just encoding to MP3 @ 320kbps in xACT for smaller download size.

Prefer B for greater clarity, prescence, and transparency.  I can dial it in closer to optimal with some rough EQ than A.

I'd say sample B. Sample A seems a bit dense, sample B a bit looser and better clarity, easier to listen to.

Sample B has a level about 1 dB higher than Sample A.

After matching levels, Sample B sounds better to me.  Sample A has an emphases from about 10 kHz to about 15 kHz that is quite pronounced.  (I'm also happy that I can hear it, being an older gentleman as I am.)  Sample A also sounds like it has a dip from about 5 kHz to maybe 9 kHz.

I prefer B. To be honest, the sound is not very good and very much mono on a good speaker setup. Sorry....

A has less midrange that seems flatter then B. B does not have a smooth a response as A does. B has to much midrange. Overall I prefur A over B. B's midrange is annoying its clouding the whole mix.. I can also hear the snare drum better in A vers B

were both of those sources taped from the same location/same stand? Sounds as if they were.

I'll go on record and say that I prefer source "B" myself.

I know for shows I've been at where there was one other taper (who was right next to me), listening to both of those sources now and there is a whale of a difference between the 2 sources. Mainly the difference of ~$200 mics versus a $2k set (CA 14's vs Mk4).  While my mics were the Church mics (in my example), which I think produce a really nice sound, they don't just compare to be "big boys".

Just sayin'

So fess up, when will we find out what the rig info is/was?
