What is a good used laptop model for dumping dats onto?
« on: April 22, 2004, 12:21:08 PM »
I've got a bunch of dats that need to be transferred to cd-r and an audiophile usb to bride the dat and the laptop.  I don't, however, own a laptop and wanted to come on here and ask you fellers first, what's a good laptop I could buy used that would be able to process the audio being sent into it?  I don't need or want a top of the line machine, and would prefer to buy used.

Any brand names and model numbers would be warmly welcomed.
Thanks!
D

thanks craig.  i was looking for along the lines of personal experiences with different models of laptops.  for example, i recall hearing that the ibm thinkpads were much more reliable than dells, and toshibas were good, etc...

i just didn't want to buy a used model that people have horror stories about.  i've also heard the audiophile usb's have problems with specific chipsets regardless of specs and thought someone may be able to shed more light on that.

I've never used the MAudio Audiophile USB, but have used the Edirol UA5 (similar USB device) with an old Dell Insprion 5000 (?) P2 500MHz, Compaq Presario P3 1GHz, and currently a Fujitsu Lifebook S6110 P3 1GHz.
