When I suggested xACT I actually meant XLD.  ;)
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
While trying to figure out whether I wanted to "include pre-gap except for HTOA", I noticed that XLD lacks any help feature.

found this chart which seems to have an overview of features for many different ripping software packages.

One thing I prefer in Max over XLD, at least with my testing so far: It's easier to tell Max to organize the resulting files by artist and album, which is a feature I quite like.

iTunes does that, too bad apple is removing it in the future.

I use EAC (Exact Audio Copy) on PC.  I have no idea if it's available on Mac.  If it is, though, it's likely worth considering.

I also use EAC. any chance you know how to mass tag the uncompressed files?  i have a bunch of CDRs of audience recordings that I want to transfer, but want to re-tag the actual file name (01 Track01, 02 Track02) to something else.

are they commercially-released CDs? in many cases it is easier to just download someone elses ripped-with-log-and-tagged FLACs

as far as ROIO, most if not all of that is already out there as well, some lacking the (in some cases problematic) CD gen

I've used Media Monkey for CD ripping, CD burning, track naming, and flac conversion for years.  Its cheap and works on a Mac or PC.  The auto-organize function is worth the price of the program twice over.

I'm not a Mac person, but my understanding is that xACT is the preferred CD ripping tool. Essentially the Mac equivalent of EAC.

I like xACT and have used it for years with my iMac.

XLD seems to not be supported after a OS update a little while back.
Looks like my options are to check out Max (thank you nulldogmas) or EAC (on PC > external hd > Mac)  :hmmm:

Update:  Max isn't supported either. Looks like I'll have to use EAC and check on XLD updates in the future.

haha iTunes didn't go anywhere, they just renamed it Music in Big Sur (and Catalina? Dunno, I skipped from Mojave)
