The pro II is a sick unit, superior IMHO to the tascam.  The pro 1 I have not used, but I would assume it is close to the same.

i've got a d10proII.  these things are workhorses.  it's a big box with full size transports.  i don't know much about the difference between the pro and the proII.  if you're getting one, make sure you are getting all of the connectors, it uses a bunch of weird shit.  The dcp-88 is the adapter for allowing the battery bay to accept DC power.  Also, you need a special digital interface cable for AES usage, there is no spdif coax input, so you need the impedance adapter to bring your line level from 75 ohm to 110 ohm.  Not sure of the model number on that one.  but those are the two most important things that you have to have.

those cables are pretty hard to come by.  especially the dcp-88, because it's not just a cable, there is a converter/transformer thingee that fits in the battery bay.  i think you pretty much gotta hope that whoever you're buying it from sells you the whole package.  that's how i got mine.

I have a D10proII, it is indeed a horse, much better than a DA-P1. It does take a SPDIF input, you just have to have the cable for it, unfortunately it's no longer made and harder to find than the AES/EBU cable. I bought my SPDIF cable from Oade ~5 years ago, it is an original Sony cable.
But I'm thinking that the proI doesn't even have a digital input, this was one of the improvements for the proII (along w/ absolute time), but I may be wrong. Definitely something to look into before you buy one. And like damon says, the dcp-88 is a must.

Yea i wanted to buy Damon's unit but just can't afford it right now. I called prodigital & they said the Pro 2 is one of the best decks around hands down & they still work on them if need be. He also said to stay away from the pro 1 chittaper had it right no digi imput.

If you don't have one yet buy Damons it's a bad ass deck w/acces for a great price!

I actually just purchased a D100 a week ago and seriously considered getting damons unit, great price, but I wanted a small unit and the pro 2 is just too big for me.  I cant believe no one has taken it off his hands though.

i'm a little surprised as well, but i had to take it off the market for now anyway while i get my other deck checked out.

by the way, i think the d10proI does have digi-inputs, it's the basic D10 that does not.  there's a D10, D10Pro and the D10ProII.
