Topic: RCA Living Stereo SACDs

I stumbled across a couple RCA Living Stereo SACDs while browsing through the classsical music section at Best Buy and I must say these are some of the finest sounding SACDs I've ever heard.  If you're into classical music I'd definately suggest checking a couple out.

I originally picked up Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue (Fiedler and the Boston Pops) to replace a CD I lost and was blown away by the quality so I went back today and snatched up all the other RCA Living Stereo SACDs I could find.  I ended up getting the following this afternoon:

Rimsky-Korsavov's Scheherazade / Stravinsky's Song of the Nightingale (Reimer and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra)
Dvorak's New World Symphony (Reiner and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra)
Saint-Saens Symphony No.3 / Debussy's La Mer / Ibert's Escales (Munch and the Boston Symphony Orchestra)

I've been becoming more interested in classical music as of late so these should help fill a void in my collection.

I have three or four of these titles, and they are amazing! Also, very interesting to read the fillers that tell all about the actual recording equipment used and their techniques! Amazing most of this was done in 3-channel during the time when stereo music was just starting out! Some of the very quiet parts are a little hissy, but as a whole, some of the passages are just stunning!!!

i have seen some of the vinyl - i might just pick up the next ones i see sitting in the used bin for $4...

there are some labels that just smoke for quality...

and this rca living series is said to be one of the best. never listened to the vinyl...

you might wanna check that area 31 (the chessky project). i like itt alot, too - you cab find it cheap on ebay (i paid $5)...

I've got a bunch of these- I'm not sure but it seems like they went to the original tapes to remaster for this series.

The originals were done in 1954  using two- and three-track 15 ips stereo decks along side a mono master . The first retail results were released on open-reel tapes in 1955 and on LP in 1958(??). I think for the current/cd version,the master tapes were played on the original decks and recorded through tubed electronics and high quality(weiss,prism?) converters.. I have quite a few myself.sweet stuff

You MUST buy the VanCliburn Tchaikovsky: Piano Concerto No. 1; Rachmaninoff: Piano Concerto No. 2...  It has been in heavy rotation in my home since I bought it in September of last year.

There was a guy here on TS.com who helped with the mastering of these SACDs.  It's an impressive job, for sure.  I think i have 20 or 25 now, and they all sound very good.  And they're 10 bux!  How can you beat that???
