Canon SD750 vs SD1000
« on: April 23, 2007, 03:52:49 PM »
Can someone tell me the differences between these two cameras? I have heard the SD1000 sometimes take pictures with imperfections (blurry edges). Any camera experts here? All I know is SD750 has a slightly larger LCD screen. If SD750 also have pictures of imperfections, like the SD1000 please let me know. Hopefully the lenses in SD750 are better.

I am also trying to decide on a new camera.. Mostly for low light concert shots and general snapshots.

My buddy just got the 750. I'm leaning toward a camera with image stability so I am looking more at the 800is.  Though I like that the 750 is 19mm thick vs. 26mm for the others. That really ups the pocket factor.

The olympus stylus has a 5x opti zoom (the 750 I think), so that is tempting. Then there is the oh so good in low light fuji f30 and newer f31fd.. but they don't have IS.

When you look really close the 800is isn't all that sharp compared to some competing cameras.. But it does have an opti viewfinder, which I really prefer at concerts. At shows I always have the lcd off to prevent the annoyance/attention and because they don't work that well in low light. The 4x zoom is nice but that extra 1X seems to give more wide angle rather than more close up.

I'm still digging through reviews... All of these cameras blow away my old elph S100.

its going to be harder and hard to find little cameras with viewfinders, everyone seems to be going lcd these days.

I have the fuji F30 that takes fairly decent pictures up to ISO1600, but no viewfinder.  Its a nice little camera though, and I always have my canon 20d to fall back on.

Because nothing says "I have lots of money and am sort of confused as to how to spend it" like Bose.

Freelunch -- ever make a decision on this?

I've been trying to look around a bit at ultra-compact digi cameras.  With the baby on the way, the wife wants one for ease of use for snapshots and something to easily carry around in her purse.  I'd like something I can snag for taking concert photos, so low light functionality is important -- noise, max aperature size, max ISO, perhaps image stabilization, etc.

Offhand, I've been looking at the Canon 800/850 IS (though that link above for the 800 vs the 700 IS is disturbing), the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX30 or FX50, the Fuji F30, the Sony T20 or T100, the Nikon Coolpix S50, or perhaps the Casio Exilim Z1050.  Ok, so I haven't narrowed it down much. :P

I'd love any input people have on any of the ultra-compact cameras, esp for concert shots.  Who's been using what?

My mom has a Cannon SD400 that I use for concert shots sometimes. I've been impressed with the results.

I could be wrong but I think the Cannon SD750 and SD1000 are the next generation from the SD400. Here is one with I took with the SD400:
