Topic: Covering the light when stealthing

Thinking about trying my hand at stelathing at Sara McLaughlin on Monday.  Seems like I rememer a thread a while back about putting some kind of colored film over the D7 light to dim it down a bit.  Searched but came up with nothing.  What color works best?

Nice.   Well I myself just use some of the scotch clear tape(not the completely clear stuff but the "clouded" transparent stuff) to cover my flashlight to reduce down the brightness of it.   May work to dim down your screen some.

With all the people around me pulling out their camera/phone/pdas these days at shows, I never get nervous about checking levels anymore.

Instead of using the light on the dat player, I use a keychain flashlight with my hand blocking the sides so it doesn't bring any attention to me.

A year or so ago a taper in Dallas gave me a small dark blue piece of a gel filter. Works well on the D7. He said his favorite for dimming the light was a dark grey but I suspect it was actually a neutral density filter. If you don't want to spend a bunch of money take a one-time-use 35mm camera and expose the film to various amounts of light to get varying shades of grey> black. If the camera can take panoramic shots you should be able to get a section long enough to cover the entire display. Another alternative might be to head to a welding supply shop and try out various shades of the glass that goes in welders helmets though all that are available may be too dark for you to read the levels on your deck.

red gel like for a stage light works well, but like was said above, i dont worry about the blue light much anymore with all the blue-lit cellphones these days

While I'm waiting for the show to start, I use mine to help the ushers seat people. Never hurts to help your fellow usher and the smile they give you back helps puts you at ease for the next few hours.
