Peluso CEMC6

Has anyone seen or, more importantly, heard these mics?  Apparently the guy who makes them was well known for repairing schoeps and has modeled this line after the colette series - except much cheaper.  I'm interested but would love to know if anyone has anything taped with them...or if anyone is running them.

Try typing "peluso" into the search bar. To answer your question, only one member runs them and there hasn't been much said about them. I think one other person is looking into trying them out. Looks promising.

there's another thread about this a few pages deep, i think in this section.

Regardless, your post re-interested me in these, and I found this review in another forum

Hi all...

I just got off the phone with John Peluso, who will be seding me a full kit complete w/all the caps...or at least 3 pairs...for a complete long term review.

A couple of quick info tid bits from the man who makes them;

1. yes, an active cable is being thought of.  Plus there is another mic he is looking at that comes w/the active cable system and two sets of caps in a kit.  nice!

2.  they are supposed to sound so close to a scheops cmc6/4 that you can't pick them apart in blind A/B tests.

3. superior off-axis responce (like a schoeps)

4. chinese metal work, but that is it.  all the guts are made or assembled in the USA.  daiphrams (mylar) are manufactured in Germany.  John called them a "world mic".

review will probably be toward the end of summer, but i'll be taping w/them and circulating the results until then.  I should have them in hand by Monday, and I'll post pics right away.

Sweet :D. I have been dying to hear these for awhile. Keep on thinking about just selling my tls to have enough money to buy these off ebay but I want to wait to hear the result. I love the schoeps sound and I would definately like to get a "cheaper" version of them. Can't wait to hear the results.

On the soundpure.com site they have a package of three (whatever caps you want) along with the bodies, clips, shockmounts, and windscreens for under $1200. Not sure about the actives. Seems like a good deal.

I have a source in TX who is sending me multiple recordings of his CEMC6 setup for a listen.  I'll let everyone know when I've received them...should be by the weekend.

hey everyone, i should poke my head in here and say that i received a dvd with a bunch of Peluso shows on it from Drewloo...many thanks Drew!  i've been listening to the 8+ gigs of shows he sent (untracked) and i must say, these mics do sound pretty good.  my disclaimer is that i've only listened thru cheapo pc headphones on my computer, but still, they sound good.  i'm not great at describing mics, but my initial impression is that at times they do sound Schoeps-like, and other times like AKG c480b's.  low-end is nice and full, and the high-end seems smooth enough, though one or two of these shows seemed to show a little brightness to them, but as we all know, that could be due the the house mix.  i'm gonna try to track these out and get them on disc and try them on my reference system to see how they sound there.  if any questions, fire away!

oh yeah, the shows were as follows:

Ben Wilson 5 - wide cards
BHTM 3.11.05 - hypers
Carbon Leaf 3.11.05 - wide cards
DSO - xy cards
DSO - ortf cards
Gourds 3.12.05 - cards
Los Lobos 12.03.04 - cards
STS9 04.08.05 - hypers
STS9 04.08.05 - omnis

I should send you some comparison stuff from these shows (all mine are Earthworks SR77 & QTC-1 > Zaxcom Deva IV).

i think i have most of those except for DSO and Los Lobos.

I don't think wayne's tapes would be a fair comparison for the peluso's   ;D

Ben Wilson 5 - mk4(DIN) > lemosax > modSBM1
BHTM 3.11.05 - AKG 483(DINa) > MP2 > modSBM1
Carbon Leaf 3.11.05 - AKG 483(DINa) > MP2 > modSBM1
Gourds 3.12.05 - AKG 483(DINa) > MP2 > modSBM1
STS9 04.08.05 - mk4(DIN) > lemosax > modSBM1
STS9 04.08.05 - mk4(DIN) > lemosax > modSBM1

hit me up if you want any/either of these.

if these are infact the cheap version of schoeps, then i think they'll get quite popular fast.

Because nothing says "I have lots of money and am sort of confused as to how to spend it" like Bose.

My guess is that they will sound like *they* sound, and it may resemble some schoepsi characteristics...but wont sound like the real thing.
I keep thinking of all those "this mic sounds like a U-87" chinese knock-offs....though this is not one of them really.
I suppose when the owner/designer tells you that nobody has ever been able to tell them apart, then thats a step in the right direction.
we'll see!!

Here's the first show I taped w/ them.  It's actually one of the better shows I've done.

Los Lobos 12-4-2004 Helotes, TX

Peluso CEMC6> UA5p > JB3

Like I've said before, I really don't like them w/ a pmod ua5 but next week I'm sending mine back for either a w+ or t+ conversion.

BTW, it's been a while since I've done a BT so if it's not working on your end it probably me.  :)
