Topic: Glow in the dark stand legs?

So I'm tired of idiots not seeing my stand's legs and running over them.  I remember watching the Discovery channel a while ago and seeing this brand new SUPER glow in the dark stuff they have...  this stuff is *BRIGHT* and stays bright for a *LONG* time.

I'm thinking about buying some and painting the legs of my stand in it, hopefully so people won't fall over my stuff.

I'm wondering if anyone's ever tried something like this, or if you guys feel like it'd just be money wasted.  Please vote and weigh in by posting!

We have reflective tape at work, (the kind the cops like to stripe their cars with), that I've thought about putting on the legs of my stand. It would light up pretty good if you shine a small flashlight on it.

im for glow in the dark, it might help a little....but mic stand are like lightning rods no matter what you do with them.  I have people knocking into them even during outdoor daytime shows and the asses that use it to support themselves while walking by.

It will probably end up having that moths to a light effect after you put it on and folks will bump it more trying to figure out what you did  :-p

I've seen people just wrap or tape glowsticks around them, seems cheaper & easier that way, plus if you ever want to be more low profile you can always take them off.

I voted 'good idea' but honestly probably not something I'd do to my stand.  Glow sticks...are also a good idea, but I usually just stand near my stand and try to remember to use a flashlight to illuminate my stand legs so people walking by will see what they're walking around.

I do think stand legs form a tripping hazard that tapers have a responsibility to somehow protect.  I don't really think someone is stupid for tripping over something that's typically black, easy to trip over, and usually sitting in darkness at foot level.  After all, they're typically semi-tanked anyway.  YMMV.

I use a LED bicycle light to light up my stand.  Picked up a cheap one at Circuit City.  When they were still around

I have put the glow in the dark tape on my stand but the problem is that it needs to be in light for a while to be effective. works great for taping outdoors when you are there through sundown. For other situations I bought a cheap LED light and strap it to my stand that way it illuminates the whole footprint.

True enough...  though I've never even though about running a stand low profile...

I'll bet the paint will peel pretty quickly with the folding/unfolding of the stand.

I've got a black mic stand, and I've been wondering if a silver mic stand would get bumped and kicked less.  Is there any anecdotal evidence for one color being better than the other?  I bought black because I thought that it would be better to be low-profile when taping, but I think that I'd rather have a silver one so that people would see it and maybe be quieter around it.

Mine's silver and it has been kicked a few times even though I guard it pretty good.
