SONY ECM-280 mics
« on: March 28, 2004, 12:49:34 PM »
Does anyone know anything about these? I can't find very much info on them, but it looks like they probably don't take 48V phantom. Seems like they used to be pretty popular - any reason why nobody uses them anymore?

This is an older discontinued model. This is part of why they are not used much anymore. Based on a quick Google search it looks like it was used in the mid 70s.  Sony doesn't have the reputation of AKG, Neumann etc as a maker of high quality microphones. Most of the Sony mics I'm familier with are battery (not phantom) powered.

Thanks - I noticed that a bunch of Dead shows in the 70s were taped using these and since there was a pair for sale on ebay, I was interested.

Did you end up winning the auction for these?  If you did have you used them yet, how do they sound?
