Topic: Sony HDR-TG3 or similar

I am looking for a compact, HD, replacement to my Canon GL2 miniDV camcorder.

There is a taper/friend of mine from France who uses this TG3 camera and his videos are superb http://youtube.com/lamiresonique

Anyways, am I mistaken or is this camera not seem available in the US/Canada?

Are there any cameras similar to this Sony model in size and capability and slightly lower price (maybe around $500) that would act as a good replacement? At first I was thinking of going small with the Lumix ZSx models, but not sure if its zoom power is suitable for closeups.
