Title: "Cheaper" schock mount for the 319'?
Post by: OhioHead on September 18, 2015, 10:26:37 AM
Anybody who has used the Octava 319's have a recommendation for "cheaper" mount?  I don't want to spend $150 for a pair if possible.

I know that I fluff whatever Im typically running at the time, but I cant rave enough about my INV6 HG shocks! I was wanting to take my rig to the next level, and I really feel that the INV6 HG did just that IMO! The clarity and detail is fantastic to say the least! I now feel I am getting the best recording possible and that makes me a happy tapir :) I will never need another pair of shocks, and you shouldn't either lol :)

Whatever you decide on, best of luck!

I saw where it said it was 52 at the max but is that where the grill is? If so the actual size you need may be a little smaller.

There are several inexpensive shockmounts for LD mics on B&H but most of them seem to top out around 48mm.  They might work, though.

This one on ebay specifically lists it as fitting 319s.   $20/pair    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Microphone-ShockMount-Holder-for-Large-Diameter-Condenser-Mic-Clip-Shock-Mount-/121235133325?hash=item1c3a2d538d

Thanks everyone.

The max diameter is 52mm, the grill is "largest" part of the mic body by just a "smig" (< technical term).

Not really comfy w/ eBay stuff, I will look at Beans suggestions and I will be calling B & H because of the different thread types between camera & audio stuff...

^ Those Rycotes Bean recommended, while undoubtedly nice, probably aren't going to save you any cash...

Look at the nady ssm3 too. Can't remember where I saw it but someone said they use them for the 319.

The 319's shocks are $75 each, the Rycotes are "way more" expensive, but if they are more secure holding mic's and reduce the Db's they may be worth it on the front end......I am using these 319's for open aud taping so I want them protected against wookies, etc.!

I love my Rycotes (I have the same INV6s as Bean).  I am pretty sure that almost everyone who has used them thinks highly of them.  Tough little suckers, too.  You would have to try hard to break one.  They aren't cheap, though...

I love my Rycotes - They aren't cheap, though...

Yes they are - better than the Neumann suspension at about one quarter of the price.  A no brainer.

Well, I guess "cheapness" is like "beauty".  Bear in mind that I, like most of the people here, am a hobbyist.  Most of this stuff is expensive, in my book.  I would never buy shock mounts that cost four time what the Rycotes did...

^ thanks everyone for the feedback, just snagged 2 mounts, foam and windscreens from a local Rycotr reseller, got each mount for $125'ish.......splurged on screens......

Support your local pro audio shop, saved about $50 on the mounts vs B & H.......

The new rig will be used for the upcoming SCI show in C-bus......

I'll be a spoiler...
taping a rock show, shock mounts are not ever going be noticed when present, or missed when absent.
