Sennheiser HD590s replacement sugestions
« on: August 11, 2005, 04:03:23 PM »
I own a pair of these and after being on the road and hearing what other head phones sound like I want to pitch these out the widow going 75. Seriously they are colored flat is the only way to explain how they sound.

I’m looking for suggestions on a good pair of that are very "very" transparent any suggestions?

i'm sure others will say the same thing, but check out www.headphone.com

They have tons of cans and you can call and talk to them if you have any q's.  Plus, they have a 30 day return policy if you dont like the cans you pick.

"colored flat"

I kid!  What do you mean by colored flat?

Honestly I don’t know how to put it into words the hi end is just not around when you listen it sounds flat to me.. After I get a new pair ill mail them to you so you can hear them if you want.. Maybe for classical music they would sound good but not panic... especially live shows.

I would love to hear what the RS-1 and RS-2.

The main thing is they need to be transparent

Can you afford an amp?

Transparent?  Hmm, those AKG K501's are quite transparent i suppose, but they need an amp.  Talk to the guys/gals at headphone.com.  They should be able to help you out.

They are mainly for listening in a hotel room after the show or while I track on my pc. I will add a head phone amp once I get the play back system complete for sure, but I have my eye on a new preamp and amp right now...

I’m going to give them a call tomorrow.

What are you driving the Sennheisers with ?
They need power to open up especially when played low.

Sennheisers are affected by head and ear shape, so they aren't right for everyone.
AKG1000s are   ;D
They need to be driven too.

Happy headphone hunting !

The Sennheisers need some break-in time to really open up...probably around 100 hours, but I forget at what point mine delivered the goods.  Also, the difference between using them with an amp vs the headphone jack alone is night and day.  I used to use mine with a cheaper, portable headphone amp and even that was a major improvement in sound.

Recording: DPA 4061s > DPA MMA-6000 > R-09

Playback office: Denon 2200 > Grace 901 > Sennheiser 650's (all Cardas cabling)
home: Onkyo SP-800 > Denon 887 > Odyssey HT-3 SE > Von Schweikert VR-2  (Kimber Select IC's and Bifocal XL spkr cables)
