Title: T Bar thingy...???
Post by: Swampy on April 29, 2003, 08:51:15 PM
Ok, so if you want to run ORTF or XY the mics have to be one on top of the other. Is there some kind of addapter that you can buy that will raise one mic up a little of the t bar? THANKS!

I use AKG 391's and an AKG t-bar and I bought a 5/8">3/8" adapter and a 3/8">5/8" adapter and that added just under an inch to one side, works perfect. Doing XY there is about 1/4" between the mics. I also use AT8410 shockmounts so I can't quite get it to ORTF unless I set the mics way back in the clips but it works great for XY and DIN. Another set of those adapters and it would be no problem. Does anybody see any problems setting the mics way back in the AT shockmounts so the front metal piece holding the elastic is in front of the mic?

I hated running one up, one down, so I picked up an atlas LO2-B(B is for black).  It ran about 12 bucks I think, and is probably the coolest thing on the stand.  It even unlocks and I can fool with my mics without taking them out of the shock if I want to.

For the AKG bar it is easy to make a spacer.  The pic has been posted here before (probably should go in the archive).  I bought a spacer with a quick release that would work for this purpose at guitar center.  Here is a link to a homemade spacer for a T-Bar

i modded my akg bar by using a small pvc coupling, a 2 inch screw w/ nut and two nylon washers.  it cost me about a dollar and works just fine.
