With the concert industry finally opening up, at east in the U.S., I have noticed that a lot of venues are now prohibiting ALL bags, including the clear NFL bags for stadiums. Below is the bag policy for Raymond James stadium in Tampa Florida:
"A NO BAG POLICY IS IN EFFECT FOR ALL EVENTS AT RAYMOND JAMES STADIUM. GUESTS ARE ONLY PERMITTED TO BRING IN ONE CLUTCH PURSE NO LARGER THAN 4.5” BY 6.5”.
With this in mind has anyone had any success with taking the Sony PCM-M10 through a metal detector?
-
You could totally fit an M10 in a clutch purse.
-
"it's my MP3 player, sir."
-
I have yet to NOT set off a metal detector, except for the one time took in way too much gear and it just didn't do anything.
-
Has anyone had any experience with the PCM-M10 - if it DID set off the detector or it DID NOT? Back in the day I would just stuff the "clear" NFL bag with clothing; hats; keys and the PCM-M10 etc. and the attendant would do a minor look into the gag, which was not put through the defector, and hand me back the bag after I went through. Now I would have to put the PCM-10 on my person - hence the question?
-
The batteries will set it off.
-
Will lithium AA's?
-
Tell them you have large metal objects as genital piercings and ask if you need to show them?
-
Only stop at the door i had and been using the m-10 for 6 years was in philly oct 2019 for the eric church show.he just wanded me and just letted me thru.i was using church mics and not my sony ecm 719..maybe rhats why it went off more than usual.personally its proberly more "heavy solid metals" that sets it off at a level to be checked
-
Who cares if the detector goes off? Just give an excuse. You can do it.
-
The batteries will set it off.

This is a question I've wondered about for years.. just not enough to make the effort to test myself.
Anyone know?

Are AA batteries not permitted at events? Why do they have to be inside the recorder when you walk in?
-
They don't of course. I've just wondered about it for years!
Just another good-to-know data-point for achieving confidence, whatever the strategy might be.
-
Here's a reason- Some recorders may not retain settings, or at least accurate time/date setting for long without batteries installed.
-
Now I'm curious about whether an A10 will set off a metal detector. I guess I may find out soon.
-
It’s the metal casing of the batteries that set it off I think.
-
I found it best practice to hide in plain sight. And so far my plastic A10 has never set off a detector...
-
Also wondering if metal casing of the batteries will set of the detector?
The metal on a recorder, mics or receiver are from cast iron and there isn't more on it than my belt!
-

M10 set off the wand last time I tried with it, used the above to get in.

In my one attempt with an A10 - no. Walk through.

the fact that it tends to work is secondary to the fact that it's hilarious!

I second that, at my local venue I pass the wand test every time

No need to worry about ANYTHING. Virtually ALL places now have a "no bag" policy. The real key is to use these magic words "medical bag".
Sir, can't bring that bag in here "oh, it's a medical bag" and you are right in.
If you have a medical bag they can't ask what it is for or why you have it due to the Americans with Disabilities Act.
You get left alone.

That's not necessarily true. The term “reasonable modification” is a broad concept that does protect people with disabilities, but it's not carte blanche. They can still "reasonably" search people with disabilities and looking into a bag is not considered unreasonable.

Is a waist bag still allowed?
I have a nice one with a hidden compartment.

I'm posting mainly to ask what rationale there is for this new policy of restricting bags.
However, to address the question of getting an M10 through a metal detector, I found years ago that it did set it off when they started placing detectors at the entrance to the hall of the Cairo Opera House. My strategy was to line my person with coins, jewelry and other metal articles, wave people ahead until there was a long line behind me, then step forward and starting to laboriously remove all the metal on my person (but not the M10 stashed in my pocket). I never ran into a guard patient enough for me to finish doing so.
