Battery power for the R-4?
« on: February 16, 2006, 12:10:07 PM »
What can I use?  Will my UA-5 battery power this?  Looks like the same power connector.  I should have it in my hands next week and wanted to look into this in advance.  Thanks!

Hmm.  Even though they're both Edirol?  Well I have an email into Cascade Media so I'm sure Frank will know.  Cheers.

I run mine on the exact same battery and cable as my UA5 ran on.  Have not had time to do an exhaustive battery life test, but I've had no problems at any shows running 24/96 for the opener and main act.  Probably 2.5-3 hours total.  The WalMary DVD battery still had 3 of 4 LEDs lit when I was done.......  There was a thread somewhere about R-4 battery life, but it was pretty long and a bit tricky to follow as I remember.

Elwood: What?
Jake: This car. This stupid car. Where's the Cadillac? The Caddy? Where's the Caddy?
Elwood: The what?
Jake: The Cadillac we used to have. The Blues Mobile!
Elwood: I traded it.
Jake: You traded the Blues Mobile for this?
Elwood: No. For a microphone.
Jake: A microphone? Okay I can see that.

So what does that mean?  I know nothing about batteries....except that I have 3 Ecocharge batteries for the DAP1 and 1 Oade battery for the UA-5 and they work.  lol

just means your UA-5 battery will only get ya 2.7 hours running the R4.  Im betting that Is recording 4 tracks though so in 2 track mode it may get a little longer life.

The old r-4 thread is worth the read.

From my tests, 3 2000mha 9.6v RC car batteries like these

got me 8 hrs record time.
