MT2496 CF speed question
« on: September 18, 2006, 12:09:50 PM »
I've noticed a few posts people are saying that the MT likes slower cards.  I'm trying to not spend as much on a card as i did on the MT, and it seems lots of faster cards are cheaper..

Anyway, MT users, what speed cards have you been sucessful with that aren' t the tested ones listed on the MAudio page?  Recomnedations?

Thanks!!

Logan

Edit... Noticed a Lexar 1GB at 80x listed as good on MAudio site... so what about this...

http://www.digi4me.com/home.php?cat=9551  80x 8 Gig card... opinions welcome!

Hey now... to save you some reading my understanding of the speed of the CF cards is that the slower ones have sustained continuous write speeds while the faster ones work in 'burst' mode.  While burst mode is fine for cameras etc, it can get bogged down when alot of continuous data is thrown at it.  When I had my Microtrack I was able to use the Kingston Elite 4gig and SansDisk ultra II 8gig line with no issues.

Stay Kind,
Dana

So under that philosophy, all audio devices that use CF should use a slower speed card for more reliability?  Does this same idea hold true for SD cards?

YES!!!!    Typically cards rated at 45-60x are plenty fast for most all rates of audio recording.  See memory tips at www.sonicstudios.com/mt2496rv.htm

Any one have any experience using

in the MT2496.  Other than decrease in battery life, any problems with the microdrives?

Mine did until this Monday.  Only recorded like 10 shows with it as well.  MD froze and wouldn't come out of it until I forced-off.
