They are going new for about $1650.00 at mercenary.
You can find some used listed on ebay for $1300.
But you really want the St350 now shipping for $5400.

I'd love to try one before taking a $1300 plunge..especialy when I can pick up a v2/sax for under 800 ...with patience.
I've never run the Sax before. Can't say i'm familiar w/its sound.
how would it be described? clean? dirty?

I'd say the sax is clean, maybe just a bit warmer than the V2/V3, but definitely not what I'd call a "warm" sound.
edit to add: go for the portico. just go for it, really :)

I've been contemplating trying the Portico, but also wanted to try one before buying. Also not too sure about adding a 12v battery to my rig. Let me know if you find one and would love to hear a review...

I'm also curious about the portico. There's a ton of stuff in that box.
The 12V req is a drag. I've been lugging the SLA for my BG1 and hate doing it.. I am pretty close to doing something else for 12V. Not sure if I'll go nimh or lithium. Last night was the worst though.. Dragged the SLA out and somehow managed to forget the damn inverter ::)

Yeah, the portico sounds "similar" to a brick, but with a lot more meat and nice features like volume control :P (I do love the 148 though)
If I had to describe it, it is like the brick on steroids (with a great facelift and bionic limbs).Not as "mojo" as my hamptone or pendulums but definitely has some nice character. the sax sounds absolutely nothing like the portico, actually sounds rather anemic in comparison. (not as much as the V2 or the ilk, but a little less euphonic and "big".)
I can get them brand new for about 1400. Hell, Chris Jones(who is endorsed by DPA dont you know :P ) reccomends it, so what more do you need? :P

i think it's a bit thick sounding for what we do

i remember you saying it was a tad bloated. that might be true for PA recording and compressed audio coming at the mics.

yeah. for a studio it'd probably rock. but i think for audience recording of loud shows, it's a bit dark
of course this is only my opinion from a few shows that i heard with it and from running it once. i may be totally off

it is definitely meatier than the brick, by a sight. Some people would love the sound, others not so much. If you like the hamptone sound, it certainly isnt any darker than that. Hamptone is a lot more "mojoish"
