Sony SBM-1 Questions
« on: August 02, 2006, 02:19:45 PM »
How come on the 7-pin jack in the back it says "digital I/O"    ?    In what situation would a person want to go digital in to the SBM-1?

ALSO,  does anyone know how many volts of Plug-In-Power the SBM-1 provides?

It says "digital I/O" because it's a digital Input/Output jack.  ;D

I would imagine the typical scenario would be useful in using digital Input on the SBM-1:

CD player or home DAT deck > optical or S/PDIF coax to 7-pin cable > SBM-1 > portable DAT (D7, D8, D100, M1).

That way, you can get a digital signal going from one device > SBM-1 > onto a portable DAT recorder.

but if you have an optical or S/PDIF coax to 7-pin cable, why not just run that directly into the portable Sony DAT deck...

I have no idea. Not knocking it just for the sake of it, but some of Sony's ideas make no sense to me... e.g. why have a proprietary 7-pin input/output in the first place?

Because that's what Sony does.

it does have optical I and O

the stock battery lasts like 6 hours recording. there is a better battery upgrade.
