this may sound dumb, but... i know there a many DVD burners out there that are 8x/16x burners. but true 8x media is still less prevelant. yes, you may go to a site that says, "TDK 8x DVD-R" or "Verbatim 8x DVD+R" or whatever. but it's really 4x media that many people find suitable for 8x burning speeds (the media can take it, i.e. burn it without getting an error during the burning process). but a lot of it is really only 4x media, mis-advertised. i have a lot of TY 8x DVD-Rs, as they were advertised, but if you check the info on the media with something like DVDInfo Pro, you'll see it's *really* only rated for 4x burning.
