It works as it always has but if you plan to combine it with new gear and you only need it for P48 phantom power which is the only thing it does it may make more sense to get a newer small format recorder like the Zoom F3 or the Tascam FRAV2 that are recorders that provide P48. Less connections, fewer power concerns, etc.

If it's what you have and it works there's nothing wrong with it. It's a time tested, if somewhat outdated, device.
