Tracking say's mine will be here tomorrow . Now i need to get a ipod touch since i use mac book pro . hope cables wont be to hard make or get.

^
"old and in the way" have you figured out what external battery that you're going to use with this pre for recording times exceeding the estimated "3 hour" limit on the internal battery?  Mine arrived yesterday and I look forward to giving it a spin soon...
i have a few Naztech 1500 and a few Monoprice usbc batteries . I have made a few rt angle hirose that i can use with the naztech to m2d2 . you should have quite a few options available out there . i doubt that this box will be real power hungry it all depends on the mics 48 v draw. I got his box a day or so ago and it comes with no ta3 cables so i have some ta3f coming and will build a set of break out mic cables and a ta3f to 3.5 right angle stereo . I'll also build a ta3f to xlr 110 ohm aes cable . i ordered a couple of usb to lightning and lightning to usbc cables that will work with a phone or tablet. for now i have a i pad that im going to play with . just waiting on connects . i have the cable and can solder . everything cable wise comes out the bottom so rt angle everything would be best ,

Why not just get 2 x 18650 batteries and a charger - swap at some point - looks pretty easy to open and close the door

yes i also have a couple extra 1865 batteries and a charger . came with a vape that bit the big one . batteries seem to be fine ,can always get new . the battery swap is quick but i'll have to see if the setting still stay the same . if you have to set it up again that could be an issue in a dark venue especially stealth.

on another note  to power this up you have to push both knobs at the same time and it powers up . not a real fast start up either . then to set it up you use left and rt knobs to scroll through the menu and set it up for your particular use . i think there is a preset menu that once encoded will make it easy . kind of like the mixpre 3,6.10

while checking out my other 18650 batteries i noticed they have a raised button on the positive end .these type will not work in the sxm2d2. you should order the type that comes with the box. available on ebay .

From the Sonosax FB page:

Sono Sax

Users Warning!

The preamplifier-USB converter SX-M2D2 has three power supply options: USC-C, Hirose connector and internal removable battery.

The battery must be present in the device to ensure that all functions are always available.

The SX-M2D2 can be powered only from one of its connectors for a few moments when replacing a discharged battery with a charged one.

i can confirm that the 18650 battery is being charged while you use external power source. i hooked up hirose and a naztech . the 18650 had about half charge . let it run awhile and 18650 was at almost full charge when i came back . just wish i had the cables to do tests and get it out into the field. Most everything i have uses full size xlrs or are not the right thing. i have a tiny box (5 pin ta5 to xlr ) .

so i plugged in hirose power and pulled the 18650 battery. 20 min later still powered up. i don't know if any functions are effected . but it's good to know that you could hot swap the 18650.

I would be cautious with that assumption, until it's better known what, if any functions are affected!?!
Once it's better known, you can choose if hot swapping is for you!?

I think i'll pickup a iphone 7 or 8 to interface with this in stealth or situations where i go small . Question what would be the best app be for the iphone /sax . Opinions?
iphone SE (~$100) and apogee metarecorder ($5)
Thats the way i think i'll roll thanks jerry

NEW (not refurb) 32GB SEs at best buy for $60

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/simple-mobile-apple-iphone-se-silver/6370444.p?ref=8575135&loc=3e990c5404cd11eab54996e3530149c00INT&acampID=3e990c5404cd11eab54996e3530149c00INT&skuId=6370444

while 32GB is less than ideal (20-24GB recording left after OS) this is pretty a good deal as ive only ever seen refurbs at this price, considering it should have slightly better battery and better reliability. locked to simple mobile and needs 12 months of paid service (min $300 to unlock) but for a dedicated recorder where cellular radio does nothing but drain your battery and cause activity from other apps, its a good match for our needs

since space is small these are great (and allows you to backup from metarecorder without a computer - also can play flacs and mp3s from them in sandisk app)

also worth mentioning this is the smallest iphone out there with modernish specs (and supported by apple), last series with a real 2.5mm headphone jack, battery life is good

SE has been discontinued for a year these may be the last new ones around. the rumored SE2 will be a larger format they say (and of course no headphone jack)
