Title: Integrated amp for desk: caravalli vs emotiva vs ?
Post by: checht on October 12, 2020, 02:03:55 PM
Need an amp to take input from DAC and power bookshelf speaks or cans. $200-$300. I have an old Sony 15w class A that I could keep using for bookshelfs as an option, but open to all in one solution.

Thinking about:
Caravalli Liquid Carbon - https://drop.com/buy/massdrop-x-alex-cavalli-liquid-carbon-x-amp
Emotiva BasX A-100 Stereo Flex Amplifier - https://emotiva.com/products/a-100

Thoughts? Other options?

TIA

Edited for clarity

I had an Emotiva integrated amp (also from that BasX line I believe) and it was great.  I bet this Emotiva would serve you nicely.  No experience with the Cavalli though so I can't offer any comment on that one.

you probably realize that first one is a headphone amp only...

Thanks, Mr. Freak. Yes, I'd use it along with my old class a sony for bookshelf speakers. I'll edit my post to reflect that option.

If you just need a headphone amp I've got a good one for sale in the YS.

The Emotiva gives good bang for the buck and generally are well regarded components.  The form factor looks like a good choice for desktop.
