Hey!
At present I am using C1000's>VXPocket V2>Wavelab.
A buddy of mine listened to one of my first recordings the other day. He said the quality was good, but the volume/levels were a bit too low.
How can I crank them up?

The only way I was able to fix my levels when I had that exact same rig was to go out & pick up an external pre (UA-5).
In hindsight, I think I could have tweaked the dB & dBU settings in the control panel... Its been about 3 months since I sold my VX so I could be thinking of the wrong place, BUT there is a place in the driver where you can select if you're using line or microphone level inputs by adjusting the nominal and max volume.
I only had the card for 6 weeks before I sold it so YMMV.

I have a similar question.. Why is it that I can set my levels to be just fine at the show, and in Cool Edit they are "peaking" at the loud parts like it should but when I burn the show I have to crank my car up to the 50 levels instead of the 30 levels like a studio CD..
Always seemed wierd because I know that it's "as high as it gets" but it's not really loud.. Does that make sense?!

You should be able to increase you gain in wavelab.
Under the process menu go to change gain and then hit "get peak level". If say your peak was -8.9db you shoud increase the gain by about 8db, this would make your peak -0.9.

This is a good thing, except maybe for listening in the car.

yea wavelab does, also, cool edit allows you to increase volume.. the downside to this sometimes is noise comes out more.. but you should be ok with the vx pocket i'd think. but recording with a little higher levels would be good too good luck.
