What is the physical diff between version 2 and 3 anyone?
And.....is it called the LSD3 now?

I didn't realize there were 3 versions.  I thought there were only two?

Here's what Studio Projects had to say about the upgrades on Version #2.

With regards to mechanical upgrades, there is no real change other than the change in the grill geometry and the new heavier layer of mesh.
Electronically, the output has increased by several dB, resulting in improved signal to noise. There was also a capacitor change in the high impedance section for sonic reasons.
Overall, the changes result in lower noise, increased sensitivity and improved low end response.
Also, the LSD2 now ships with the newly designed Halo shockmount, which holds the mic much better than the old clamp style mount.
Street price is around $659.99 and they are shipping as of today.

ok...
first try.  Screwing the shock-mount on to my bogan super-clamp*.  Just tightening it up...and trying to be gentle on that knuckle yet get a firm purchase on the bolt....and it breaks.  The metal broke, screw bent ...totally shot.
It now requires direct attachment to the aluminum pole, which is fine w/me.  However, the lean sucks.  Not that I think you could hear it in a rock-n-roll environment...but it wont be an effective isolator, imo.
I'm going to buy something else for that duty.  Too bad.  it is rather cool, and I love the screw in bottom.  I'll still futz w/this and see what I can come up with.

Nick you should def. contact PMI tech support.  After posting in the other thread I emailed and asked them about the crappy design of that piece of the shockmount. 

I got a really nice response essentially saying "yeah, our first round of new halo's weren't built to spec as they should have been and there is a replacement part that we will send out to you tomorrow".

I'm not sure exactly what the new piece looks like, but I'll post some pics of it when I have it in hand.

And I'm sure if you sent them the pictures from this thread that they'd definitely hook you up...seemed like nice folks.

I think the saggy band could be fixed by getting shorter bands and replacing the stock one...or tying on some extra pieces more tightly.

I also ordered an extra windscreen, to put on the bottom of the mic when transporting until I can find a suitably sized hardshell case for just the mic and shock.

Got the replacement shock mount part from SP today.  It's essentially the same thing as the old one except it's all one piece, not two parts screwed together.  It should fix the problem.  I'd take pics, but the mount is in use at work now...

Also in case anyone's interested, the second windscreen fits perfectly over the rest of the mic body...so with both on there at once, they completely cover the entire mic.  I think it will be handy for safe transport.

Hey all.  Well I picked up one of these.  And from playing around with it looks like the shock's loose a bit where Nicks broke.  Can anyone recommend a solid replacement shock for the lsd2?  Or I also read of the replacement part for the shock?  Is that offer still good?  I just don't feel safe running the mic in this shock for fear it's gonna break all the way.  Thanks for any help.

Email Alan Hyatt about it & they will send you a replacement piece.  I did so and had the piece in a couple days.

otherwise, the old style shock mount, which you can pick up anywhere (most generic spider style LD shockmount will work).

its just not always practical.  the mic is large...as you know.
running it upside down, at ohh.., say 8' and the capsules are still only at 6'6"

Are you guys sure your using the upper bands on the shockmount properly...?

You need to cross them like a Sabra Som shock...not just shove the mic between them...(I cant really describe how to do this - so take look at some Sabra pics)

Crossing them will make the mic fit much tighter in the mount and likely resolve the "lean"

impossible with mine.  having owned sabra products, I initially thought that is how it would work. but there was no way in hell it was going to slide through on my try.
