best way to transfer only the miniDV audio
« on: November 13, 2006, 04:23:45 PM »
 heyguys
i recorded a jazz gig and wanted to know the best
way to transfer just the audio portion of it onto an audio media..
i transferred to minidisc SP MODE and it
sounds amazing and im happy with it but its still compressed.
im thinking of doing it into  Hi-md on PCM mode ( 90 min on 1GB disc ) to retain
the PCM uncompressed quality.
but is there a better way other than thru computer ( wav/ flac /shn  and all that )?

got other Questions but i'll save them for later.
thanks ahead of time.

So you have a miniDV tape and you just want the audio?  Why don't you hook up the camcorder to your PC via firewire and just capture the audio and not the video?

yea you're right firewire is the way to go but the thing is  i dont have a firewire input on my computer nor do
i have audio inputs.i know...im behind as hell but im upgrading this year.
im no diehard and still newbie on alot of areas technically.
only thing i got going for me is an MD boombox ( non hi-md ) that has one AUX IN ( single  stereo plug in ) which
isnt saying much.

i now rely on my sony HC21 miniDV cam for the audio ever since my microphone for the hi md broke.
amazing . no clipping nor distortion which i thought would happened.

i  guess Hi-md is it then. i just worry about playing music on
the same portable player i record with ( wearing the head down )
THose Sony guys are taking too long with the hi-md decks... if it even comes out.

thanks for the fast reply guys.

If you can't do FW, some cameras have USB2. Does yours? You could rip the PCM via USB (or FW) and get a perfect EXACT copy of the AUD, so that's the preferrable way for sure, but if you can't do that, then going line-in is better than nothing.

You can get a firewire card AND a cable on Ebay for around $20 if you look around.
