I've had great luck with the energizers. You also can't beat buying them and taking them home instead of waiting for them to be shipped

How are the energizer chargers?

Or is there an advantage to buying a 40$ chrger (i will if it gives me more taping time, but 20$ for 4 2500 AAs and a chrger just seems so much easier)

The better chargers will go into a maintenance mode when the batteries are charged.  That allows you to leave batteries in the charger all the time.  The cheaper chargers have a full charge indicator but you have to remove the batteries when they are fully charged or risk damaging them.  In the long run, you will get better life out of batteries using an intelligent charger.

I picked up a Monster charger + 4 2350 mAh (i believe) for ~$35 ($16 w/ employee discount) at Best Buy and I love them.  With a fully charged AA and 1250 mAh gumstick in my MD I can record for about 5.5 hours WITH the OLED light staying on...God knows how long it will record without the OLED being off.

I had some older Energizer rechargables and they were just crap!  That was a few years ago and I havnt used any newer once since Ive picked up the Monster cells.

Hi,

I think the Lenmars are generally of crappy build. It seems the Maha, Energizer, and Duracell 2500 mah are the brands you should get. However, the charger is even more important for reliability. Since you only need 4 (SBM-1), I would get the Maha 204-F (i believe that is the model) charger. They have a great conditioning routine as well to optimize battery life (use the cycle once every 15 charges or so). Also, just use the slow (2 hr vs. 1 hr) charge. You will get better battery longevity. My 4 Energizer 2500's will run an SBM-1 for 5 hours easily (more like 6). Go to thomasdistributing.com. Do not try to save a couple of bucks on batteries or the charger, you will pay for it during an important recording! Stick with the above mentioned brands, and MAHA chargers!

Good luck!

As far I can find, Thomas Distributing only has 2300s, but the Powerex batteries seem to be understated in their capacity - likely equivalent, if not better, than 2500 Energizers.  Local purchase is pretty convenient though.

I would take the powerex over any other brand that I have tried.  Highly recommended.  I've not seen the powerex brand through any other distributors besides Thomas, if that makes a difference.

Energizers hold thier own against the Powerex batteries.  I use both the Energizers and Powerex, completely satisfied with both...

I've bought from Thomas a few times, I'll use them again if I need batteries.

Older, but it's something:

I wish they would test the Monster batteries I use, I'd like to see how they stack up.

They might even be a re-branded battery like many others.  I was pretty suprised to see how much recordable media (cd-r/dvd-r) was made by only a few large companies, I doubt batteries are much different.

Hrmmm, I never thought of that.  I suppose that they could be a re-brand.  Perhaps an email to Monster will give me some more info.
