Troubles With Creating Flac Fingerprints
« on: August 01, 2008, 02:38:36 PM »
Hello ya'll!
I'm learning how to upload to the LMA.  I've done my reading, notetaking, downloading programs and things went pretty well with the seeding and encoding....
BUT, now I can't figure out why flacfrontend isn't creating a fingerprint for me.

Here we go...
I added my flac files to frontend, highlighted them, clicked fingerprint, saved it to a folder and then when I open the file there's nothing there...zip, zilch, nada...just a cursor blinking away like it's laughing at me!

I've tried uninstalling and installing flacfrontend twice now.
With no luck.

I'm at witz end and I need suggestions!

Thanks!

Frustrated in PA,
moxie

I don't use frontend but use Traders Little Helper.
I've never had a problem with it. You should try it.
You can get it here. http://tlh.easytree.org/

Not sure why regular flac frontend won't work.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!

You have no idea how happy I am.  I have been working on this for days and wa-la!  Checksum!!!!

So......questions...

Are fingerprints and checksums the same?   ffp.txt = .md5??

Is it okay that my info is in a .txt file and the checksum/fingerprint is in .md5 file?

Text file should read band name-date.txt  (ex) moe2008-08-01.txt
flac fingerprint should read band name-date-ffp-.txt  (ex) moe2008-08-01ffp.txt

The fingerprint file that you made looks like this right?:
If you have an .md5 you need to change the checksum type from md5 to ffp in the drop down box.

FWIW I don't usually keep the actual .ffp file.
I open it and copy it to a notepad to make an ffp .txt file.

You guys are great!

I think I got it!...I guess we'll see!

It's funny that you said, "FWIW"... the song FWIW is on the recording I was working on!

Anyways, thanks again!

I'll be back if it doesn't submit properly...  :-\

This has been quite an experience!  I feel like I've learned so much in just a short time!

Are fingerprints and checksums the same?   ffp.txt = .md5??

a FLAC fingerprint is a checksum only of the audio data contained in the file.  Fingerprints are nice because you can change the FLAC tags, change the FLAC compression settings, etc, etc, and they will stay the same, because you are not actually altering any audio data.

an .md5 file is typically a checksum for the entire file, including any header info, metadata (tags), or anything else.  the whole file.  So if you change or adds tags to a FLAC file, the .md5 checksum for the file will change, even though none of the actual audio data has been altered.

Okay, so fingerprints are definitely better.
Well, I used a checksum this time...hopefully everything will be fine.

Here's my show...so far so good!
