Title: "walmart" 9v battery run times
Post by: willndmb on November 17, 2005, 09:43:23 PM
i am doing some tests on my battery (new) along with my ua5 and jb3
i charged it tues, let it sit wed, today i recorded for 2.5hrs and now and doing a 2nd recording
i have read and been told i should get approx 5hrs

but my question is this actually...
has anyone done tests on how much time you can get before each light on the battery drops down?
this is what i got from my earlier test
started full, after 37mins i hit the button and got 3 lights, after 2.25 hrs i got 2 lights
after 1.5hr in recording #2, 2 lights still
after .5 hrs on recording #3, 2 lights still
somwhere between .5 and 1hr it died totally

just wondering if others have any info on how much runtime you can get on each light, so that if you recorded a show or two and had to see if you had enough time left for another if you would know aprrox how much time would be left

EDIT -- so after my 3 recording test...
the 1st and last lights die fast
30 mins into the full charge i lost 1 light
and somewhere between the 4.75hr and 5hr it died totally

so basically my test is of no help--you can't really look at the number of lights and get a ballpark idea of time left

Here's another ? - I get 3 lights (on the li-on) no load, 2 with the ua5 on... how low do you guys let the battery go before recharging, or does it really not matter with the Li-Ons?

mine jumped up to 3 lights with everything off too, but right back to 2 when i turned stuff on
in the book that came with mine it says 2 lights means less then 50% charge left
i personally am not going to chrage till it gets down to one light, then i will prob let it more or less die out to see how much time i can get as a whole
then tomorrow when i have the time i am going to make a recording thats nonstop except to restart the jb3 at the 3 hr mark and see if my test times are close or whatnot

i know that doesn't really answer your question but i persoanlly thing draining it down more before charging is best, i could be totally wrong though

It doesn't matter when you charge it, but it is best to keep it charged as much as possible (not let it sit a long time uncharged).  It is not def not good to over-discharge it.  I have actually recorded a 2+ hr show on one green light powering just my UA5 :o...  I run my JB3 off internals.
