Looking for a new sound card
« on: March 15, 2004, 08:49:31 PM »
Well it's finally time to get a 24 bit soundcard.  I want something that will offer 24/192 as well as 5.1 surround.  I would like for it to have a bit perfect digi in, but I will probably actually never use that functionality.  It should also go well with a future headphone/amp combination that I will eventually get for mastering my recordings (once I get that far).

How is the EcoSys Waveterminal 192L?

Any other suggestions?  I would rather not spend more than $150.
Mike

that 192L would have been my suggestion.
I am not up to speed on "whats what" in the world of sound cards, but I'd be all over this myself.  Iv'e eye'd it for a year...still haven't purchased it yet though.

Frank-
I have had nothing but good experiences with my Delta DiO 24/96.  Doesn't do 192k, but c'mon...  Don't remember the cost buy I remember it being in that price range when I got it from the other Frank.

You need an add-on card I believe.

Yes standalone the 192x has optical out only. the addon card gives you COAX I/O and Optical I/O as well as midi stuff.

The card is waiting for me when I get home so I will post my experience later. Add-on card arrives tomorrow.

well both cards arrived yesterday. I can not be happier with my purhase/ The install went EXACTLY as stated in the Manual.

Well so far I can't believe the subtle detaild that has been brought to life with the 24Bit playback. I am running the card ANALOG out 1/4" to RCA to my Marantz SR880. I am using the on board DAC and it is (to my eras) stellar. The soundstage immediately grew outside of my limited Klipsch bookshelves.

I would reccomend this card to anyone. There are less expensive cards that give you similar features but the 24/192 sold me and with the Add on card I have every I/O that I could want.

Cool, thanks for reporting back.  Any chance you'll do some bit tests on the digital ins?

If you do a serach on this board if i remember correctly there are several posts as the the Bit Perfect transfers of this card. It is why I got it.

But anyway the interface is very simple but the card has the ability to lock on to the digital clock of the external device. DAT(master)  -> Wavterminal 192x (slave) did my first DAT transfer last night via the optical and it synched right up

Hmmm, and now I'm looking at the 192M which has a lot more versatility with the break-out box for $25 more :hmmm:.
