Simple question: best cable for me?
« on: May 21, 2008, 09:00:49 PM »
Hi,

Can you guys help me out? I need a cable to link my R-09 and my CA 9100. Should be very, very, very flexible. Which cable brand/specification is the best sounding one? Will use Neutrik right angle plugs on both ends. ;)
Thanks in advance.

Look at mogami wire. They make some high quality, small diameter stuff that is very flexible.

I like their #2552, but it might be a little big for what your doing.

Can you recomend a good online dealer for both cables and Switchcraft stuff?
Thanks in advance.

I am a HUGE silver-clad copper fluffer and wont use anything but that stuff. The Bleden 1804a is VERY flexible and also easy to work with! I would try that before I used anything else!

And on that same token, some of us prefer standard copper cable (I like the kind Ed uses for his Kind Kables). At any rate, any of the cable makers here can make you something very high quality:

if you are wanting to make your own cable, ignore this then.

If you want to buy a pre made cable, either of these should work:

- and -

(almost identical pic for this one is here)

Not trying to "fluff" anything, just giving you additional options

If you're making your own cables and don't want to use silver, you might try the Canare L-2B2AT copper cable.  Pretty small (though not quite as small at the Belden 1804a) and very flexible.

Personally, I don't find the Belden 1804a to be unpleasant sounding, but it isn't at all the same to my ear as the milspec teflon silver cable that is often used.  I think the teflon dielectrics might have a lot more to do with the signature sound of the silver-clad copper cables many are using than does the silver itself.  (The Belden 1804 doesn't have the teflon insulators, though it is silver.)

The teflon milspec silver stuff is fairly stiff, so if you want flexible, that would be out.
