Title: What kind of snake do I need?
Post by: crossthreaded on May 13, 2010, 02:24:02 PM
looking for a snake to record off the board into my roland vs 1680.  I'm not sure whether I need an 8 ch trs>8 ch trs, a 16 ch tr>8ch trs, or what exactly all this means.  I want to be able to do a multitrack recording with this unit at a local club.

i know that the roland will do 16 channels but there are only 8 inputs on the back.  I will most likely be doing 6 ch off the board which are 1/4" and using the 2 xlr for my audience mics.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, now that it is summer I have time to mess with this thing and really want to try it out.

Looking at the web site real quick http://www.rolandus.com/products/productdetails.php?ProductId=484 it looks like you have the following inputs.

10 audio inputs:
2 balanced XLR-type inputs w/ phantom power (2 Normal Three Pin XLR)
6 balanced 1/4" inputs (6 TRS 1/4)
1 stereo digital input (optical/coaxial)

So it sounds like you need a 6 channel TRS 1/4 Snake unless the XLR is a combie jack, which it sounds like you need that for your mics.

PM me if you need a cable made for this project.

Ted-

Where do you source the connectors/techflex/wire for the cables you make?  I've looked around but can't seem to find exactly what I'm looking for for this situation
