Title: Line Audio CM4 3-wire BB possible?
Post by: brn2rn on July 06, 2022, 03:12:03 PM
Hi there!

I was just wondering if anyone know if the Line Audio CM4 is possible to run from a 3-wire battery box? Or if it could be modified into doing that?

Since I'm in Sweden I might have to actually call them and ask...

I replied to your post in the Line Audio thread but here it is again - I can confirm that the CM3 (almost exactly the same mic) will run just fine - with reduced sensitivity and corresponding output - from 12V phantom power.

Whether it will work with something other than a preamp that supplies power is anyone's guess. The current consumption is <4mA so it's conceivable that it could be done with a 12V battery with sufficient capacity but only if the mic is not picky about the filtration applied to the power.

Also see my note in other thread on the difference between phantom powering and what is generally referred to as 3-wire powering.

Thanks for your replies. I'm answering in the other thread. Sorry about using two spaces.
