Bought a Roland r-07 and then got a pair of Soundman classic, unfortunately I am returning them due distorted sound. So i wanted to get a pair of CM4, but they just told me the R-07 is not compatible.
Any tips on good microphones under €200 compatible with the r-07? Thanks

With this budget i would go for the CA-14 plus a ugly battery box.

Concur with the above, but look for used ones in good shape if you have any near-term recording plans. And did they explain why Line microphones are incompatible with your recorder?

These Line Audio mics require xlr input and phantom power that there is not on the R-07…
-
You can finagle it from XLR to 3.5 mm but the CM4s are about $250 already plus you'd need to get something to power the mics so you'd be way over budget. I second the CA14 route.

I am an happy LINE AUDIO CM3 user, those mics are amazing but not inside the OP's budget,
simply because the mics are more expensive and you'll need an 48V power suply ... btw I am running those LINE AUDIO's via an Denecke PS-2.
I agree with the hint about those church audio mics, they are very good and inside the OP's price range :yahoo:
good luck !

The line audio CM4 is within my budget, only 140 EURO confirmed by the Line Audio guys. But I can not use it in my Roland because, quote:
"As far as I can see, the Roland R07 does not have the appropriate microphone input and does not supply phantom power, which is required for the CM4. Normally equipment for phantom powered microphones has XLR type inputs and some indication of phantom power (or +48V etc)"
So, is there a way to adapt my Roland to use these mics or I can forget about them? Willing to pay for a pair of CM4 given the good reviews, so money is not an issue. Thanks!

pillowman indicated what you need. The Denecke PS-2 is +48V phantom power supply that runs off a 9V battery. You would also need XLR-XLR cables for the mics and and a dual XLR-3.5mm cable between the PS-2 and the DR07. And while the CM4 + phantom power supply + cables + DR07 is certainty stealthable (if that is your intent), that set of equipment is bigger than many people use and might be a bit much for someone new to the activity.
Not sure how difficult it will be to get a PS-2 in Europe, here is one on eBay:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/144582356125?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&itemid=144582356125&targetid=1262749491342&device=c&mktype=&googleloc=9031026&poi=&campaignid=15428034462&mkgroupid=133947154481&rlsatarget=pla-1262749491342&abcId=9300763&merchantid=6296724&gclid=CjwKCAjwrZOXBhACEiwA0EoRD89k6fkQwiEbd6mlNNco7wLhRFY31syucMwnnMgXjwDmVByHuTBz4hoCXSoQAvD_BwE
There are some other options, but the PS-2 is known amongst tapers as a good option.
This would probably work as well but you'd need two of them:

Just bought a pair - about $130 /€127 each ( 1200 Swedish kronor ).
Edit: dang, Dollar is stronger today so down to $120 now.

The CA-14s are great for their price, but do be forewarned that the cables tend to wear out after a year or two, developing crackles. Neutrino on this board does excellent work replacing the cables ($60 shipped when I did it last year), but do factor that into your likely future budget if you do buy them.
The AT-853 cards (with low-sensitivity mod) are virtually identical to the CA-14s in sound quality and offer the bonus of being able to swap out the card caps for omnis, but they may be slightly out of your price range unless you can find a good price on a used set.

I've had 3 pair (mix of 11s and 14s) for the last 4-5 years and don't have this issue (yet?). Wonder if Chris used different material at times?

The 853 are significantly more robust but also a little more bulky if that's an issue.

Not sure. It's possible as well that I just had bad luck with my two pair of CA-14s (bought the second after the first developed crackles a couple of years in), but others here have reported similar issues.

This is very true. Either works fine for clipping to a collar, cap, etc., though.

140 EUR for 1 mic, ... that's right ... and the OP needs two mics
here are some more details about what I use between the mics and the recorder:
2x Line Audio CM3 Cardioid (slightly wide/semi wide cardioid) > 2x 5/8 inch chopped straight XLRF > chopped straight XLRM 'GAKables' > Denecke PS-2 Dual Channel Microphone 48V Phantom power supply to 3.5mm stereo jack
really love those custom GAKables :smash:
also finding a PS-2 with 3,5 mm output cable will be another challenge :(

There are XLR to 3.5 adapters. Ebay has them for $7 each.

Living in Sweden I can help out with purchase and shipping if someone is in dire need of a pair.
PM on that case.
