This was my favorite soundcard from older PC's I had, and I'm thinking of picking up a nice used one for a new PC build. I'm curious if anyone on here still uses one and how does it do under Windows 11? Thanks :)

was a good card in its day
you might have a hard time finding a mobo with that legacy PCI slot, i only see a handfulon newegg
given all the things that can go wrong in a computer transfer setup, esp a decades-old card in a modern OS without support, you might have a fair amount of work ahead, many hours of testing for bit accuracy and dropped samples/interrupts
would be cheaper and quicker to build a win XP box with hardware thats essentially free
or one of the numerous bit-accurate stand-alone recorders with spdif in

Gawd, save the work and buy a USB Focusrite external I/O.

Nope. Not interested in going external.

I'm curious why you are taking a hard line stance against an external USB interface?
I had this discussion recently with a friend of mine that is a musician with a home studio and he was looking at similar options to what you are talking about in the OP.

Fair question. The latency issues with "some" (not all) USB 2 and USB 3 has been an issue with my friends setup so I would like to avoid that as much as possible. To be honest, I have been doing a good bit of research on both internal and external and there is a lot of nice options available, so my opinion of outboard could change :)

Can someone here suggest a bare bones external card to capture DAT conversions via a Sony standalone A7 deck? It has SPDIF and optical outputs, so something that can capture then and send via USB to Adobe Audition is all I need. The Scarlet 8i6 is $250... hoping there's something out there new for <$100 ??
Thanks yall!

I bought a lovely used Marantz to do DAT transfers.
Much as I love good interfaces, it just seems proper to go DAT > S/Pdif > 661 > WAV > SD card and be done with it.
Why count on the clock from some old PC build?
I get it, it's fun to make a solid machine, but I just can't get attached to it, and it uses more juice than a portable writing to SD.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I get what your saying, but does everything have to be "justified" all the time? Sometimes people just like using certain things. I know that sounds crazy, but I just like this soundcard. I use/used it for a LOT more than just transferring DAT's.

Absolutely not! Do what you love! Do it the way you enjoy it!

Be careful! PCI slots are pretty damn close to being obsolete these days. Make sure your card uses PCI-e or PCI-x or that your "new build" uses a legacy motherboard that has a PCI slot.

There's tons of the Tascam US series of USB interfaces out there available used for $50-$100. I had a US800 for a while. It worked fine. You can find the US144mkii for $50 easily on Reverb or Ebay.
