With basketball season fast approaching, I need a way to burn the games off from my cable DVR HDMI output at 1080i/720p to dual layer DVD.
I see this model on sale at buy.com now:
Samsung DVD-VR345 Super Multi VCR and DVD Recorder - w/ HDMI & DivX Compatible
List Price: See Details $399.95
You Save: $184.96
Our Price: $214.99
but know nothing about these units.
From the specs, I can't even tell if it's got HDMI input.

Are you trying to record in HD?? I highly doubt you will be able to do this and will need to use component ins.
HTPC's are a pain in the arse! The pic quality is good, but I've yet to see one as good as a DVD player with SDI mod and a DVDO or other scaler being used. Also, HTPC's are loud.

If poorly engineered, yes.
