Is there a reason you want the Matthews over the Bogen 099b? The Matthews is smaller, but the Bogen extends much taller. My experience with the quality and customer service of Matthews was a bit disappointing as well. I have both, but can't really ever see myself using the Matthews again.

One of the rings on my Matthews cracked also.

The 2nd ring on mine cracked last night. Still held, but disappointing since it's only ~6mo old. I think I'll try the Bogen.

Ted - In your pic at the beginning of this thread labeled drumstand, is that base stand-alone or did it come with an arm? I am looking to purchase a base like that but have no use for an arm.

fyi mine also cracked a ring at some point.  Still works but I'll probably replace it just in case.
