CA-14/O or CA-1/O?
« on: June 12, 2010, 06:05:29 PM »
I have a pair of CAFS/O already, and for **budget** reasons right now, I'm trying to decide on whether I should get the CA-14/O or CA-1/O.

I know Richard already said he liked the CA-1 over the CAFS but would love some other feedback.

Right now, I like the CAFS for very low profile recording... But the CA-1's don't look that much bigger.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks.

The CA-14's will generally give you better results but you'll lose the stealth value that the CAFS's & CA-1 give you.  Budget wise, you can't beat the CA-1's - especially at this time as Chris has a great price on the few remaining ones.  Just my 2ยข.

Since I make these mics, I can say keep the ca-14 mics.. AND the cafs mics.. they are both good omni mics. But like I said if you want small get the ca-1 mics.

What's the ETA on that?  I look forward to your tests.

We need more pre-orders on the CA-1's before mine will be built/shipped.

Hey Chris.  Yeah, I know we should get them all :).  I've got all of them except for the CA-14.
But if you had to choose, ignoring size/stealth, which would you rather run?

I think Chris answered this... he likes the CA-14 the best (but again, it's the biggest of the bunch).  I'd asked him about choices as I already have the CAFS (bought in the fall) and he still suggested the CA-14 over the CA-1 even though it's bigger.

Again, I like small and that's where the CA-1 came into play (not as small as the CAFS).

Any chance you have (access to) a pair of CA-11s to include in the comp?  These strike me as a potential compromise in size between the CAFS / CA-1 and the CA-14.

That's the only pair I don't own. I'd need someone to loan me a pair.

Depending on when your CA-1s are ready, I may have my CA-11s available.  I'll keep an eye on the thread, and if you remember, PM me when you know your CA-1s are on the way and we'll see if we can work out a loan.  Theoretically, I will also have a 9100 pre available for loan, too, though off-hand I don't recall which version.

Cool Brian. Once mine are shipped I may take you up on that. I have a 9100 already and want to test with my Sony D50.  It'll be interesting to compare all 4.
