Have you thought about Sony ECM-674 ?
A very good shotgun mic with high sensitivity.

Did you had the chance to compare it next to a MKE 600/K6/AT897 or something similar ?

I've not done any direct comparisons with other mics. I recall reading a few informal comparisons (more like impressions) on the JWSound forum.

6V 3000mAh Li-ion USB-C rechargeable battery for PCM-D100

Just thought I'd share this. My PCM-D100 battery holder cracked and I was having trouble finding a replacement. I ordered a 6V 3000mAh Li-ion rechargeable battery from AliExpress that fits the PCM-D100. A bit pricey at $52.92 USD shipped, but so far it's working great. It took 14 days to arrive from China. Here's the link.

Thanks for sharing this. Ordered one.

Thanks everybody, I'll probably go with the safest choice, the MKE 600.

As for suggestions to optimize the D-100, here's another useful tool :
AQUARIAN AUDIO PA1 HYDROPHONE BUFFER AMP
https://www.aquarianaudio.com/pa1.html

It allows to increase the bass response of contact microphones & hydrophones.
Works pretty nicely with my D-100.

Going off the photos of this battery holder, it appears the case was 3D printed. Can anyone who has purchased confirm? It would be awesome to somehow get our hands on the shape files, even if only to reconstruct an original replacement. I love this recorder, but the battery case is its weakest link.

It definately appears to be 3D printed. It's also about 2mm too short, so I put a small piece of foam tape at the end to ensure a good connection. Here's a couple of pictures.

Thanks again for the original link and the photos. It's good to see there is a serviceable battery in there. I ended up placing an order as well.

Quick update on my order for the LiPO battery: 20 days since I placed the order and it's not arrived. Tracking through Aliexpress is less than clear; it's marked as shipped (w/o tracking #) but the estimated delivery date is mid-September. I reached out to the seller asking for additional shipping info.

Update: Of course, a couple days after I posted, the battery arrived. Still, over three weeks is quite a wait.

Just a heads up for anyone else thinking of ordering one. Delivery might not be as quick as @sdbirder experienced. (Also, I need to learn patience.)

About AliExpress : I bought my Sony PCM D-100 used from them. They were being sold at a decent price (around 550USD). At first, I was suspicious: Why does so many Aliexpress seller has some D-100 to for sale while none of them has other models in stock, like the M-10? Could it be a counterfeit lineup or damaged/sub-quality units? (Some AE resellers still have some D-100 for sale right now.)
Since I really wanted to have a D-100, I overcame my suspicions and bought from a seller that offered decent warranty (satisfaction/few days; one year/defects).

Shipping was quite fast (less than 2 weeks). At first, I kinda freaked out because I thought my recordings would be nearly silent. But I guess there's noise and hums everywhere. For sure, it sounds way better than my previous Zoom H4n recorder. I also found my EM272 to be a bit more silent than the internal mics of the D-100 (though sometimes, I'm catching up some RF noises with the 272 when I record near my internet router, don't know if it's normal behaviour or not). The internal preamps are also pretty silent when I'm using contact mics as hydrophones.
One other thing to mention : They have put sticker with Chinese characters on the screws so you can't open it without breaking the one-year warranty. Again, I don't know if it's usual or not...

Overall, I'm quite satisfied with it but whish I could A/B test it with an other D-100. I did it with an old Sony PCM D1 and I though the noise floor was quite similar. It's often hard to differentiate noise floor and self-noise. I think I either must have bought a legit unit or a high-end counterfeit !!

As for the shotgun : Finally, I have decided to go for a ME66 rather than a MKE600. Even though it might have less bass response than the 600, it appears to be more sensible and directionnal which seems to make a better companion for the D-100 in a sound hunting situation.

Just FYI, I ordered the above rechargeable battery on 7/14 and it arrive today, 8/2, just shy of 3 weeks to CA.

No tests yet.

Are these still for sale? I saw they were resuming sales, but don’t see any listed for sale anywhere. I am tempted to order one from Ali Express.

I figured that production would stop with the introduction of the PCM D10.  I really liked mine when I had one.

Are these still for sale? I saw they were resuming sales, but don’t see any listed for sale anywhere. I am tempted to order one from Ali Express.

I’m new to sounds recording and have snagged like new Sony PCM D100 along with Rycot set of suspension/windshield for about $700.
Decided of I’ll invest to go for the best. Don’t plan to use external mics, so didn’t need a model with XLR. Also it has future proof AA batteries instead of internal one. I have a few questions if experienced users could assist.

1. I understand the purpose of X/Y and A/B mics setups. But D100 mics can also be fixed parallel to each other. Is there a real life usage scenario for such setup?

2. If I’m not recording for video sync (24/48), should I go with highest settings for ambiance sound recording? Plan to use only WMA format.

3. To record cat sounds (purrs, eating) should I use it in mono or still stereo in X/Y?

Any tips for PCM-D100 beginner would be helpful.

Thanks.
