Three-wire question, Shure Beta 98/s

I have a set of Shure Beta 98/s.  I do not have the Shure RPM626 to power them.

So here is the spec sheet:

Before I get a pair of those RPM626s I have a question for those of you who know more about this than myself:

With polarity being "positive pressure on diaphragm produces positive voltage on pin 2 with respect to pin 3"
AND
these small mics needing 48v phantom, can I run a TA3 > XLR cable from the microphone to the deck?  Do I need the RPM626 if it needs 48v?

At first I thought I could run these to my AT8533x power modules with a TA3-F > TA3-F cable, but they need 48v.

I think you'll need either a 3-wire preamp (which may be phantom powered, such as the Shure RPM626) or a 3-wire battery box to run them. Same as miniature AudioTechnica mics in their original unmodified configuration.  3-wire low voltage powering is a different scheme than Phantom..

See bottom of page 3, where there is a circuit diagram beneath the polar plots.  Particularly the middle section between RC filter and Preamp, which shows 3-wires labeled: Black (to souce)(audio) / Red (to drain)(DC bias) / Shield.  That seems to indicate wiring between the separated microphone and preamp, with the preamp using phantom power and converting it to 3-wire mic-power.

The specification sheet assumes use of the RPM626 with the mic and does not apply to just the mic itself.  However it does not make that clear. I really wish microphone manufacturers would be more clear about this kind of thing.
