What Sony mic is this?
« on: September 25, 2022, 03:58:32 PM »
Does anyone recognize this little Sony stereo mic? (It's about thumbtip sized.)  Trying to find what model it is, and specs, but image and word searches haven't found it for me.

Thanks but not an exact match.  It looks like the PC-62 had a plug coming out of the back, to go into the desktop adapter. This one is wired, with a tieclip attached. Might well be the same mic element though!

After a few more clicks....it appears that the PC-62 with the miniplug came with the WM-D3. I'm guessing this is the wired version that came with the WM-D6c.

It's been 35 years, but I don't think the WM-D6C came with a mic. I got a woeful Sony ECM-101 first to use with my D6C and then replaced it with the better ECM-121 before switching to Sonic Studios DSM6 a few years later. That looks like the ECM-121.

That's a positive ID, thanks!

I'm sure it's no match for your DSM6, but were you generally happy with the recordings from the ECM-121? If the specs in the Italian listing are correct, its bass response only goes down to 100 Hz.

As a beginner steath mic I was pretty happy with it, but then I didn't really know any better. It was certainly better than the ECM-101, which was *really* lacking in bass even though it was also spec'd to 100 Hz. I did make some decent tapes with it from 1988 to 1991.

That's the PC-62 already discussed. The mic element section appears to be the same, but the PC-62 went directly to a 1/8" male plug for direct insertion in to the deck. Then there was an additional cable with a female jack for having the mic away from the deck.

CUTS off at 100 Hz, or starts rolling off at 100 Hz?

Great to see you back on here, earmonger!
Was just thinking about ya the other day.
I bought a new recorder off a very popular auction website, and you should hit me up if you want a wired remote control that might work with some recorder you or a friend have access to.. lol.

That's right, I forgot that it had the 1/8" male on the mic itself.

Not the Sony ECM-121. I have mine right in front of me (used to record shown with it between 1990-1994); different colour and no "L" to the left side...
