Canon Powershot G6

Hi,

Got a new powershot G6, and I love it! What are the best techniques/settings for taking concert pics (i.e. low light in front of me, but a well lit stage)? Specifically what auto/manual/flash settings should be used? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Last bunch of photos I took at a gig were these, which I'm more than happy
with :

The first one I was particularly proud of (DSFC1243) as it was taken from the back of the hall through a sea of heads that just happened to part at the right time !

Used a Fuji S5000 - settings were as follows :

ISO 400
Shutter Speed 1/60th
Camera in Shutter priority mode.

Turned the flash off completely, most bands I know don't mind photos being taken, they just hate flash photography and the pics look horrible and washed out with no atmosphere anyway (IMO).

Another bunch I did were these, this was actually the first batch I ever shot with this camera and I'm not quite as happy - there's a couple of great shots in there (I was in the front row) but the shutter speed wasn't quite set right, it was something like 1/16th and in hindsight it didn't work as well - there was a bit of trial and error to start with as I was given the settings by a mate and wasn't really sure what I was doing.

Anyway hope this helps if only a little bit !

I'd suggest aperature priority, set the aperature at it's widest setting f1.8 or something close to that.  Leave the ISO at 100 or camera default.  Let the camera determine the shutter based on light.
